IG-11 Droid Project

I was very happy when I found out about this project. I always wanted to learn Substance Painter and I knew that I will like it!

My task was to unwrap model of IG-11 Droid* and create new textures using Substance Painter. Working in this program is very similar to Photoshop's workflow, so I got used to very quickly. I had an idea to show IG-11 as a long time serving, almost retired version of droid and try to focus on presenting old materials in a very realistic way. I have used perfect model of IG-11 made by Urizel:

My first steps was unwraping all the elements of the robot in Maya, It was very tedious work and took a bit, but when it was finally done, I could start much nicer part of this task.

I have created four materials, copper, aluminium, leather, old rubber. I have made rich research how chosen materials will look like after many years of service.

I wanted for my IG-11 model to show an old type android, long time in service, almost retired.
When I finished working on textures in Substance Painter and wanted to transfer them into Maya in order to render them using Arnold, I found out that, even though I tried to make very precise textures, I found some issues and inaccuracies when these were applied to the model. I also noticed some loss of the quality in the textures.

Below is the final render:
